Bathroom Remodel Cost in Orlando, FL (2025 Guide)
Bathroom remodels are one of the most common projects we complete in Orlando and one of the most misunderstood in terms of cost. A bathroom remodel in Orlando can run from $8,000 for a straightforward cosmetic update to $40,000 or more for a primary suite bath with a custom tile shower, freestanding tub, and full layout reconfiguration. The difference between those numbers is scope — and scope is determined by what the space actually needs.
This guide covers what a bathroom remodel costs in Orlando, FL for 2025, how the permit process works in Orange County, what drives the price up or down, and what to look for before you hire.
What Does a Bathroom Remodel Cost in Orlando, FL?
Guest Bathroom / Half Bath Update: $8,000–$18,000
A half bath or small guest bathroom with standard fixtures and a straightforward layout. This includes a new vanity, toilet, flooring, and updated fixtures. If the tile is staying, the cost is at the lower end. Full retile pushes it higher.
Full Bathroom Remodel (standard size): $15,000–$35,000
A full tub-to-shower conversion or tub replacement, new tile throughout, new vanity and fixtures, updated lighting, and exhaust fan replacement. This is the most common bathroom remodel range in Orlando for an 80–150 square foot bathroom.
Primary Suite / Luxury Bath: $30,000–$60,000+
Larger footprint, custom tile shower with frameless glass enclosure, freestanding tub, double vanity with vessel sinks, heated floors, specialty lighting, and higher-end materials throughout. Primary suite baths in neighborhoods like Windermere, Dr. Phillips, and Winter Park often fall in this range.
Full Layout Change (moving plumbing): Add $5,000–$15,000
Any time plumbing moves — relocating a toilet, moving a shower, rerouting drain lines — the cost increases. In older Orlando homes with slab foundations, cutting into slab to relocate drain lines is the most expensive single item in a bathroom remodel.
What Drives Bathroom Remodel Cost in Orlando
Tile work is the most labor-intensive part of most bathroom remodels, and the largest cost driver after plumbing. Small-format tile, intricate patterns, or large-format slabs all add to labor. A tile shower with niche, bench, and floor tile in a primary bath easily runs $4,000–$8,000 in labor alone, before materials.
Plumbing: Cosmetic bathroom work (vanity swap, toilet, fixtures) is predictable in cost. The moment plumbing moves, costs become less predictable — especially in Orlando's older housing stock, where slab-on-grade construction means cutting concrete to access drain lines.
Vanity and fixtures: A stock vanity from a home improvement store runs $400–$1,500. A semi-custom or custom vanity runs $1,500–$6,000+. Fixtures (faucets, shower heads, thermostatic controls) range from $200 to $3,000+ depending on brand and specification.
Shower type: A tiled walk-in shower costs significantly more than a standard tub/shower combo. A frameless glass enclosure adds $1,500–$4,000 to the shower cost. A freestanding tub adds $800–$5,000 depending on the fixture.
Ventilation: Florida's humidity requires proper bathroom exhaust ventilation. Upgrading to a code-compliant fan or adding a fan where there isn't one is a standard part of most bathroom remodels.
Orange County Permit Requirements for Bathroom Remodels
Whether a bathroom remodel requires a permit in Orlando depends on what's being changed:
No permit required (generally):
- Replacing a vanity in the same location
- Replacing a toilet with a new toilet (same location)
- Replacing fixtures (faucets, shower heads)
- Painting
Permit required:
- Any new or relocated plumbing (new drain lines, supply lines)
- Electrical work (GFCI outlets, new circuits, lighting changes)
- Structural changes (moving or removing walls)
- Window changes
In the City of Orlando, permits are issued through Orlando Permitting Services. In unincorporated Orange County, through the Orange County Building Division. In municipalities like Winter Park, Maitland, or Apopka, through that city's building department.
Permit fees for bathroom remodels in Orange County typically run $150–$500 depending on scope. Processing runs 1–3 weeks.
We pull all permits as part of the project — you don't manage any of it.
How Long Does a Bathroom Remodel Take in Orlando?
- Small bathroom / cosmetic update: 1–2 weeks
- Full bathroom remodel: 3–5 weeks
- Primary suite bath with layout changes: 5–8 weeks
A standard full bathroom remodel timeline:
- Day 1–3: Demo — remove tile, vanity, fixtures, flooring
- Day 4–7: Rough plumbing and electrical (if any), waterproofing membrane on shower walls and floor
- Week 2: Tile installation (walls, floor, shower)
- Week 3: Permit inspection, vanity installation, fixtures, glass enclosure
- Week 4: Finish work, paint, accessories, final walkthrough
We don't cut corners on waterproofing or tile cure time — a bathroom that fails in two years because waterproofing was rushed is not a job we want to do twice.
What to Watch for in Older Orlando Homes
Orlando's housing stock includes a large share of homes built in the 1970s through 1990s with slab foundations. When remodeling bathrooms in these homes, there are a few common issues:
Slab plumbing: Drain lines run under the slab. Moving a toilet or shower requires saw-cutting the slab, moving the pipe, and patching. This adds cost and time to any layout change.
Galvanized supply lines: Homes from the 1970s–1980s may still have galvanized steel supply lines, which corrode from the inside and reduce water pressure over time. A bathroom remodel is a good opportunity to repipe supply lines in the affected area with PEX or copper.
Outdated electrical: Many older bathrooms in Orlando homes lack GFCI-protected outlets or have undersized circuits. Florida building code requires GFCI protection within 6 feet of water. We bring electrical up to code as part of every bathroom remodel.
Inadequate ventilation: Bathrooms without proper exhaust fans develop mold in Florida's humidity. We install code-compliant ventilation in every bathroom remodel.
